It may be down to two.

As was first reported by The Athletic, the Tigers are slated to name Ron Gardenhire their next manager. Gardenhire interviewed for the Red Sox open managerial position earlier this week, following Alex Cora and Brad Ausmus.

The soon-to-be 60-year-old Gardenhire is very well respected by those who played for him (as was evidenced by former Twin and Red Sox Nick Punto's comments), while leaving a very positive impression on his only season as bench coach for Diamondbacks skipper Torey Lovullo.

While the feeling throughout the baseball world is that Cora remains the favorite for the Red Sox job, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said that no definitive decision has been made. It would appear likely that the Sox would want to wrap up their search prior to the World Series, which kicks off Tuesday.
