FORT MYERS, Fla. -- When Alex Cora announced Dustin Pedroia wouldn't be joining the Red Sox for their season-opening series in Seattle the next question was regarding when the second baseman would be making his season debut. At that point, there were no answers, just the initial plan to spend the opening of the regular season back at JetBlue Park.

Now, there is a tentative blueprint.

If all continues to go well Pedroia would be playing his first back-to-back games March 28 and 29 with minor leaguers at Fenway South. From there he would spend the following week continuing to build up while playing in Southwest Florida and then for a still-to-be-determined minor league affiliate when their season begins April 4.

The plan as of now would be for Pedroia to join the Red Sox for his 2019 regular season action on April 9, the team's home opener.

"So far, so good," said Pedroia after playing six innings and notching two hits Thursday night. "I'm still pushing. I'm always excited ... There is a reward at the end of everything. To be able to be out there (at Fenway) and be ready to play, it would be awesome."

Pedroia has looked solid in his five Grapefruit League games, going 4-for-10 at the plate. He has managed three at-bats in each of his last two games.
