Brandon Phillips road to the Red Sox keeps getting derailed.

The 37-year-old infielder initially had to draw back on his work with the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox last week due to a pectoral issue. And Saturday night he experienced another roadblock, getting plunked in the left hand by a pitch. Phillips exited the game after staying on first base for one additional batter.

Phillips was classified as day-to-day after X-rays proved negative, with the PawSox identifying the injury as a contusion.

Making the injury more frustrating for Phillips is that it comes at a time the Red Sox might have been able to use him, with Rafael Devers going on the 10-day disabled list. Instead, the Sox called up Tzu-Wei Lin to fill Devers' roster spot.

Phillips is just 5-for-29 with Pawtucket (.172) in nine games.
