Just when it looked like Pablo Sandoval was setting himself up for life beyond that five-year contract he signed with the Red Sox prior to the 2015 season, the 33-year-old's career has hit another roadblock.

The Giants announced Saturday that Sandoval's season was coming to an end due to reconstructive elbow surgery.

Sandoval was slated to become eligible for free agency after the 2019 season, excelling in the final season of the five-year, $95 million deal he inked to play in Boston. In 107 games Sandoval carried a .823 OPS and .269 batting average while totaling 14 homers, playing at both third and first base.

The switch-hitter also excelled as a pinch-hitter for the Giants this season, going 18-for-47 (.383).
