BALTIMORE -- With two outs in the third inning of the Red Sox series-opening game at Camden Yards, John Farrell's team received quite a scare. Hanley Ramirez fouled a Miguel Gonzalez pitch flush off the side of his left knee, sending the outfielder to the ground, writhing in pain. After a visit from trainer Rick Jameyson and the Sox manager, Ramirez remained in the game. Ramirez went on to foul off three more pitches before ultimately drawing a 10-pitch walk. Upon reaching first, the righty hitter was immediately replaced by pinch-runner Rusney Castillo, putting runners on first and second. A David Ortiz line-drive to left-center field would end the Red Sox' threat, leaving the game scoreless. The team later classified the injury as a left knee contusion. In his first at-bat, Ramirez grounded out to second base. He is currently hitting .275.
