Mike Ditka stable after suffering heart attack

According to his longtime agent, former NFL coach and television analyst Mike Ditka is recovering after experiencing a heart attack earlier this week.

"Coach Ditka had a mild heart attack earlier this week. Doctors inserted a pacemaker, and he is doing much better," Steve Mandell told ESPN Saturday. "He appreciates the outpouring of support and expects to be home soon."

The 79-year-old Ditka is recuperating in a Florida hospital, according to Mandell.

Ditka won the Super Bowl as both a player and coach, having led the Bears over the Patriots in Super Bowl XX. He coached Chicago to seven playoff appearances, including three trips to the NFC Championship Game. 

Ditka as an NFL analyst for both NBC and ESPN, having participated in Sunday Morning Countdown through the 2016 season.
