According to a source, former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons interviewed for the job earlier in the week. Gibbons interviewed over multiple days and has ties to the area as his mother is from Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The Athletic was first to report the news.

While the Boston Globe reported earlier on Friday that Ron Roenicke would be the Red Sox' choice to replace Alex Cora after a ruling comes down from Major League Baseball regarding its investigation of allegations the Sox cheated in 2018, the team has not informed any of the candidates of a decision.

“Our managerial search is not yet completed. We will comment at the completion of the search," a team spokesman said.

Gibbons, 57, last managed in 2018 with Toronto.
