Dustin Pedroia said on his way out of the Tropicana Field visitors' clubhouse that the reason he sat out Thursday's game against the Rays because his injured left knee was a "day-to-day" thing. Evidently, Friday was not one of the better days.

Pedroia, who continues to nurse an injured knee after coming off the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, is not in the Red Sox' starting lineup Friday night as John Farrell's team kicks off a three-game set at Yankee Stadium. His only action since returning from the DL has been a one-game stint at designated hitter, Tuesday.

Once again, Eduardo Nunez takes Pedroia's spot at second base, hitting leadoff. Mookie Betts slides into the lineup's second spot.

With lefty Jaime Garcia on the mound, Chris Young gets the nod at designated hitter, while Hanley Ramirez returns to first base. Here is the entire Red Sox lineup with Eduardo Rodriguez on the hill for the visitors:

Eduardo Nunez 2B

Mookie Betts RF

Andrew Benintendi LF

Hanley Ramirez 1B

Chris Young DH

Xander Bogaerts SS

Rafael Devers 3B

Christian Vazquez C

Jackie Bradley Jr. CF
