Red Sox manager John Farrell was ejected with two outs in the first inning of his team's series-opening game with the Rays by home plate umpire Dan Bellino. Farrell came out to argue with Bellino after warnings were issued to both teams following David Price hitting David Ortiz with a first-pitch fastball, which hit the designated hitter in the right hip. The warnings were handed out as a reaction to the bench-clearing incident the two teams had at Tropicana Field Sunday, when Rays' shortstop Yunel Escobar had words with the Sox' dugout after taking third with his team up by five runs.
