Chris Sale really is appreciative of his alma mater. Friday night the Red Sox pitcher showed exactly how much.

At an annual fundraiser for Florida Gulf Coast University's athletic program Sale and his family presented a check for $1 million to the school. It was the largest single donation made to the school in its history 22-year history.

FGCU was the only Div. 1 school to offer Sale a scholarship offer after his high school career in Lakeland, Fla. The Red Sox' pitcher also met his wife Brianne while attending the school, with the first of the couple's three sons having been born while both were still attending that Fort Myers, Fla. university.
