LONDON –– When Red Sox fan Billy Mullaney made the trip to London this week, he didn’t expect to find himself playing catch with Alex Rodriguez. But there he was, tossing the ball with one of Boston’s most infamous sports villains.

Mullaney, 26, encountered A-Rod on his stroll to the Tower Bridge Thursday. Rodriguez was shooting a piece for MLB Network and spotted Mullaney’s Red Sox jersey. He called over to  and invited him to play some catch. The New Hampshire native obliged, despite his Red Sox fandom. You can watch in the video above.

Rodriguez, who was swinging a cricket bat for his MLB Network segment, was a relatively anonymous presence on the streets of London. He will be in the broadcast booth for ESPN Sunday when the Red Sox conclude their two-game set against the Yankees.
