LAS VEGAS -- While we are waiting for Scott Boras to come back out of the room he went into after Greg Maddux's retirement press conference, walked through the catacombs of the Bellagio and picked up a few nuggets ... One National League team which asked the Red Sox about the availability of Clay Buchholz was told he would not be included in trade talks. Also, Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell reported that Josh Beckett has shown no ill-effects of his oblique injury, having begun his regularly scheduled workouts while planning on beginning his throwing program at the end of the month. San Diego general manager Kevin Towers said the only team he is in negotiations with regarding pitcher Jake Peavy is the Chicago Cubs and as of this moment the pitcher is not open to a deal involving an American League club. Peavy had not included the Red Sox on the list of teams he would accept a trade to.
