Who is Mike Kickham? Getting to know the latest Red Sox addition

The Red Sox have added another player to the mix.

The team announced Saturday that pitcher Mike Kickham has become the 50th participant included in their player pool as they gear up for the July 24 opener at Fenway Park against the Orioles.

The 31-year-old lefty last pitched in the major leagues for the Giants during the 2014 season, appearing in two games. His only other big-league stint came the season before when he saw action in 12 games (3 starts) for San Francisco.

Last season Kickham pitched in 31 games (13 starts) for the Marlins' Triple-A team in New Orleans, totaling a 4.80 ERA. 

During Spring Training 1.0 this year, Kickham appeared in three Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox, allowing one run in 4 1/3 innings while striking out six and walking one.

The move allows for another southpaw option out of the bullpen with Darwinzon Hernandez and Josh Taylor both sidelined by COVID-19.
