Xander Bogaerts' propensity to slide head-first has gotten him into trouble again.

The Red Sox shortstop was forced to exit his team's game against the Mariners Friday night with a left index finger sprain, having injured himself when successfully stealing second base in the sixth inning.

Bogaerts was 1-for-4 before giving way to Eduardo Nunez, who took over at second base while Brock Holt slid to shortstop.

"He’s day-to-day. We’ll see," said Red Sox manager Alex Cora after his team's 14-10 win. "Probably stay away from him tomorrow. We were looking for an off-day and it just came up now. Hopefully he’ll be ready to play on Sunday."
