With the Patriots off until training camp, we’re having a series featuring the 15 most important Patriots players for the upcoming season. The countdown will continue for the next several weeks.

No. 1: Tom Brady

Position: Quarterback

2018 stats: 375-for-570 passing for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns

Why he’s No. 1: Shocker, but 41-year-old is the most important player on the Patriots roster. Year after year the quarterback proves a number of people wrong as he continues to perform at a high level, including last year when he led the team to yet another Super Bowl. The most impressive thing about him is he's always looking to get better and is still able to evolve his game in different ways. Most recently, it's been his ellusiveness in the pocket and his ability to buy himself more time to throw.

There's no doubt about it the team would be in a lot of trouble if he were to go down for an extended period of time. No longer does the team have Jimmy Garoppolo as a backup option, it's just Brian Hoyer, Danny Etling and Jarrett Stidham. While Hoyer could steady the ship for a game or two, anything more than that would not go well at all. In addition, it's not like the offense has a loaded group at wide receiver or tight end that could help in the passing game. Brady's ability to make everyone around him better is something really no one else in the league can do.
