With pick No. 178 overall and in the sixth round, the Patriots selected Arizona State linebacker Christian Sam, who the Patriots had in for a pre-draft visit.

Here are three quick things to know about the Patriots' newest linebacker.

-- Standing 6-foot-2, 237 pounds, Sam finished last season with 127 tackles, including 9.5 for loss and three sacks. Sam suffered a foot injury in 2016 so played just one game as a junior, but as a red-shirt junior this fall he earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors.

-- His former coach Todd Graham has been seen with the Patriots' brass over the last few months so there are rumors he has joined the staff. Of course he would have been able to give Bill Belichick, Nick Caserio and Co. some good intel on him.

--  His profile on NFL.com says scouts don't see him as a leader and he doesn't love to practice. It will appear he will be a depth option at linebacker.

New England has two more selections in the sixth round and one more in the seventh.
