It seems clear the Patriots will be making defense a priority in the draft, especially in the first few rounds.

One top defensive player who has been connected to the Patriots is Alabama safety Ronnie Harrison.

On Sunday, he told reporters he had a formal interview with the team that night and it comes after Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst reported he had heard Harrison is a Patriot-type player. He has the Patriots selecting Harrison in the first round of his mock draft.

Harrison said he can play both free and strong safety.

“I did it all, pretty much,” Harrison said to reporters. “I’m comfortable doing both. Whatever a team needs me to do I can step in and do it. Whether it be in the box covering tight ends, I can do that, or if it’s in the back-end, I’m comfortable with that.”

The Patriots eventually will need to get younger at the safety position as Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung and Duron Harmon are all getting up there in age.

Another defensive player connected to the Patriots according to Pauline is Arizona State's Christian Sam. Sam is an athletic linebacker, who battled has injuries over the course of his career. He's expected to go in the middle-to-late rounds.

Other teams connected to Sam are the Lions and Texans.
