With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning of Wednesday's Red Sox-Angels game, J.D. Martinez ran home on a wild pitch to make it a 9-6 Red Sox lead, but when reliever Jake Jewell attempted to cover home, his right foot got caught in the ground bending his leg/ankle the wrong way.

Jewell, who was just called up for the game for his third major league appearance, was in a ton of pain and a stretcher was needed to get him off the field.

"First of all, just, hoping everything is OK with that kid," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said afterwards. "That was tough to watch. Everybody in the dugout and clubhouse will be praying for him. Hopefully he can bounce back from that."

“Yeah, I felt bad," Martinez added. "I kept saying, ‘I didn’t touch him. I didn’t touch him.’ I didn’t even feel any impact or anything like that, so those are kind of the scariest ones almost. It looked like he was in a lot of pain. Obviously, prayers to him and I feel bad. You never want to see that happen.”
