The 2018 regular season is in the books and the Patriots finished 11-5, won the AFC East and will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming AFC playoffs.

So, what stands out most about the 2018 team?

Appearing on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria on Monday with Steve DeOssie and Fred Smerlas filling in, Bill Belichick said we're about to find out.

“I think that is what will be answered in the coming weeks," he said. "Our season is in front of us, not behind us, so whatever it is, it is. Whatever it was, it was. It is about what is going to happen here moving forward. That is what we need to do. We need to make the most of these opportunities and we need to be ready to play our best football a week from Sunday at 1 o’clock. We are going to be playing a good team. We’re going to have to play our best game of the year to beat them. We know that. It doesn’t matter who it is. You don’t play this time of year if you’re not a good football team. That is what it will be and that is where we need to be, so we’ll do everything we can to get there. We’ll see what the story is on this year’s team.”

By earning a first-round bye, the Patriots have an extra week to prepare for their next opponent, but the challenge is not knowing who that will be. Typically, this is a week for self-scouting, but Belichick also noted rest plays a role as well.

“Rest is an important component of having a little extra time, so if we can utilize that then I think our practices and our games will be more productive going forward if we can get a little more gas in the tank," he said.

Despite not having an opponent yet, the Patriots will make the most of the week off before hosting their divisional round game Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1:05 p.m.

“I think the team that you have is part of it. I think the teams that you may be playing could be part of it, and just the overall situation that your team is in at that particular point in time," Belichick said. "In the end we have obviously a lot of things we can work on, a lot of things we can do. We’ll try and pick out the ones we feel will be most impactful, or most likely to occur, so we can get the most benefit and work on those — whether it be a team, a technique, a fundamental, a scheme. Whatever it happens to be to do the best we can in the time we have until we know we we are playing."
