Following the Patriots releasing Kai Forbath on Monday, the team currently does not have a place kicker on the roster.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Forbath was signed late last week after Nick Folk needed an appendectomy and then was released to make room on the roster. Folk still had a locker in the Patriots locker room as of last Friday, so there's a chance he returns this week given a quick recovery was expected.

But, Bill Belichick offered no clues on his conference call Tuesday.

"Well, we have a few days to work that out," he said. "So, we’ll look at our options and try to do what we feel like is best for the team based on what our options are. So, I don’t know exactly how that’s going to go, but we’ll see."

Belichick was later asked if punter Jake Bailey was ever an option, even though that would require a new holder. It is worth noting while Bailey did not kick at Stanford, he did both kick and punt in high school.

"We’ve looked at a number of different options," Belichick said. "And again, last week was last week, this week’s this week, and maybe it’ll be the same, maybe it’ll be different and maybe some of the circumstances around that will change. That situation came up pretty late in the week, so this week we have a little more time to plan and evaluate the entire situation, and again, we’ll see what our options are and try to make the best on."

New England has had four place kickers in 12 games this season.

The Patriots host the Chiefs Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
