Bills looking to play spoiler Sunday vs. Patriots: A win would be huge for our city, team and organization

The Bills obviously have been eliminated from playoff contention, but that doesn't mean they don't have anything to play for Sunday against the Patriots.

Buffalo would love to play spoiler and not have the Patriots clinch the AFC East for a 10th straight season.

"It's huge," Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander told reporters this week. "Obviously, they've been the standard of our division for the last 15 years, and they're in the division chase. So for us to go up there and be able to beat them would be huge obviously for this city, for our team and organization. Because they're a team that's really had our number since I've been here."

There are a few things going the Bills' way, especially when it comes to them running the ball.

The Patriots defense has allowed 7.64 yards per carry over the last three games, which is the worst three-game mark in franchise history and the fourth-worst by any NFL team since the merger. Meanwhile, the Bills come into the game totaling 870 yards the last five games, the second-most in the NFL over that span.

But, history is going against them -- New England has won 32 of the last 37 meetings dating back to 2000.

Regardless, Sunday should be a game that is a lot closer than many expect, especially if the Bills fully embrace the spoiler role.
