Chris Hogan will not be returning to the Patriots.

The veteran receiver has signed with the Panthers, per a team release. Hogan didn't have the greatest of seasons last year as he finished with just 35 receptions for 532 yards and three touchdowns. It appeared for whatever reason he got out of Tom Brady's circle of trust.

NFL Media's Mike Garafolo says it is a one-year deal.

Given how long he went unsigned, some speculated he could return to the Patriots given their lack of moves, but obviously that will not be the case. It is also interesting Hogan picked a team outside of the northeast considering how much traveling back and forth from Long Island he's done the last few years to see his family. His wife is a doctor and they have young twins.

Hogan will return to New England for the third preseason game.
