It looks like Chris Sale will be a member of the Red Sox for the foreseeable future.

According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox and Sale are nearing an agreement on a contract extension. The left-hander was scheduled to be a free agent after the season.

Sale, who will turn 30 later this month, has made 59 starts with the Red Sox and is 29-12 with a 2.56 ERA. There were concerns with his long-term healthy after what happened down the stretch last year, but the organization has maintained all offseason he's fully healthy.

The lefty will make his second straight Opening Day start for the team next Thursday.

No terms are known at this time, but it is likely this contract will impact what the organization does with its other top players and keeping them for the future.

UPDATE: ESPN's Jeff Passan adds if the deal is completed it would be in the range of five years and $150 million.
