Roughly 12 hours after Josh McDaniels informed the Colts he would not be taking their head-coaching job and staying in New England, general manager Chris Ballard held a press conference to address what happened.

Ballard said he and the Colts were very confident McDaniels would be their next coach after their two meetings and he gave no indication it was ever in doubt. The GM said McDaniels called him Tuesday night around 7:15 to let him know he changed his mind.

"I live in a black and white world. Either you're in or you're out. I didn't want the explanation," he said of the phone call.

Ballard added he didn't feel betrayed by McDaniels or the Patriots.

"Look, I wish Josh the best going forward. Josh McDaniels is a good football coach," he said.

But after saying all that, he walked off the podium with a parting shot.

"The rivalry is back on," he said.

New England has won the last seven matchups by a combined scored of 285-152.
