How dominant have Patriots been in AFC East until this year? Check this stat out

The AFC East standings look a lot different now than everyone is used to.

After three weeks, the Dolphins stand alone at the top at 3-0 and then the Patriots, Jets and Bills are all two games back at 1-2. How unusual is this for the Patriots?

Consider this stat from ESPN: The last time the Patriots were two games out of the AFC East lead was Week 8 of the 2002 season. That's 16 years -- 16 years since the Patriots have been faced with what they are facing now, having to climb out of a two-game deficit.

Things could change quickly over the next several weeks, including facing the Dolphins Sunday at Gillette Stadium, but that stat just shows how rare it is to see the Patriots looking so far up at the top of the division.
