While it was a long-shot, it definitely will not happen now.

It's possible the Red Sox will look to add a bat at the trade deadline and if they do, it will not be Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez. According to multiple reports, Martinez has been traded to the Diamondbacks from the Tigers for prospects.

Martinez is batting .305/.388/.630 with 16 home runs and 39 RBIs this season.

The Red Sox have been struggling offensively since the break, so there's the thought Dave Dombrowski could add a power bat to the mix, but the biggest need appears to be in the bullpen along with a third baseman.

MLB's trade deadline is set for July 31.
