Don't bring up playoffs to Jason McCourty because he's not thinking about them

FOXBORO -- For veteran cornerback Jason McCourty, he's never been to the playoffs.

Now, in his first year with the Patriots, at 8-3 it seems like he will be playing in a postseason game for the first time in a month or so.

But, don't bring that up to him because he's not thinking about it.

“Wow. Probably going to go to the playoffs?” McCourty said on Monday with a hint of sarcasm. “It’s fun to win. Won a game last week. Focusing on winning another next week. Those [playoffs] are far away. For us right now, it’s working to try and win a ninth game as opposed to looking forward to anything that’s ahead.”

The Steelers fell to the Broncos on Sunday, which was a big game for the Patriots in terms of seeding because that allowed them to jump Pittsburgh in the standings. But, McCourty said he isn't paying attention to any other games because he can only control what the Patriots do.

“No, not really,” McCourty said. “At the end of the day, if you don’t take care of what you have to take care of, it doesn’t really matter what anybody else in the league is doing. I think for us, when you star tot do that and you’e looking at this, you’re losing focus on what’s in front of you. For us, this week, Minnesota is front of us and that should really be the only thing that we’re looking at or we’re focusing on.”

As it stands now, the Patriots are the No. 2 seed, but if they win out and get some help from the Chiefs and Chargers they have a chance at the No. 1 overall seed.
