FOXBORO — The Patriots held their eighth training camp practice of the summer Friday morning on the upper grass fields behind Gillette Stadium. It was held in pads and held in hot, humid conditions.

Like Thursday, it was a heavy hitting day with lots of 1-on-1 linemen drills, although the first-team offense and defense wasn't very active.

Who didn't practice: Malcolm Mitchell, Jonathan Jones (PUP), Cyrus Jones (PUP), Nate Ebner (PUP), Marcus Cannon, Sony Michel, Jason King

Who returned: Kenny Britt (off PUP), Keion Crossen

Who was injured during session: Trey Flowers (unknown), Brian Schwenke (unknown)

Play of the day: Cordarrelle Patterson had a one-handed grab in the back of the end zone on a Brian Hoyer pass. It was the last throw of the session.

Here are a few more observations from the session.

— Cannon and Michel missed their second straight practice after leaving early Wednesday. This is starting to become a little concerning, especially when the reports on Cannon were the injury was minor. The Patriots need these two on the field, especially Michel as he learns the offense.

— Britt participated in individual drills, but then left for the lower fields with other rehabbing players during team drills. This was his first day in full pads. He came back on the field towards the end of practice.

— Eric Decker wasn’t on the field, as he still hasn’t officially been signed.

— Trey Flowers left the session roughly midday through with an unknown injury. He hasn’t looked like his usual self to this point in camp.

— Celebrating his 41st birthday, it was a very light session for Tom Brady, as Hoyer and Danny Etling saw most of the reps. Both quarterbacks continued to struggle. Hoyer continued his poor trend to open camp with several bad throws, including a few interceptions. Etling appears to have issues reading the defense and knowing where to make the throws.

-- Like Brady, Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski essentially had days off. Edelman and Brady spoke a lot during the session.

— Etling ran a lap after a bad snap, but ran it so fast he only missed one play. Later on, after a botched Hoyer snap, the entire offense ran.

— Dwayne Allen had two drops.

-- Jordan Richards had a leaping interception of a Brian Hoyer throw.

— Braxton Berrios made the most of his reps by having a solid day.

— Marquis Flowers ran four straight laps at the beginning of practice for an unknown reason.

— Some standouts in 1-on-1 linemen drills included Adrian Clayborn, LaAdrian Waddle, Ted Karras and Trent Brown. Rookie Isaiah Wynn got beaten badly by Clayborn twice.

— The team is scheduled to practice Saturday, which could potentially be a intra-squad scrimmage with the first preseason game being in six days.
