Gronkowski has had a setback. No, not the football player. The horse.

According to, Gronkowski has suffered a setback and it is possible he won't be able to run in the Kentucky Derby.

“We’ve had a minor setback and we will know where we are in the next 24 hours,” trainer Jeremy Noseda said.

The horse is still scheduled to fly to Kentucky this week in advance of the May 5 race.

[UPDATE 6:45 p.m.]: The horse has been ruled out of the race. "It’s unfortunate Gronkowski the horse will not be able to race in the upcoming Kentucky Derby due to an illness," the tight end tweeted. "I fully support what is best for the horse. I know he will come back strong and healthy and I am excited to see him race again very soon."

Last week, Rob Gronkowski, the football player, bought a stake in the horse.

Regardless, it is a good bet whether or not Gronkowski runs in the race, Gronkowski, the human, will be there as he's been a regular at the event in recent years.
