After originally saying he would not need offseason shoulder surgery, Red Sox first baseman/designated hitter Hanley Ramirez went under the knife on Tuesday.

Ramirez tweeted a picture of him in the hospital with the caption: Hi my people, went in for left shoulder surgery today, keep me in prayers. Coming back stronger in ‘18, love you all #RedSoxNation @RedSox

Also, just last week president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said he wasn't aware of any players needing offseason surgery.

Ramirez hit .242 with 23 home runs and 62 RBIs this past season, playing in 133 games.
