FOXBORO -- Stephon Gilmore made the second Pro Bowl of his career on Tuesday night, joining Tom Brady as the Patriots' only representatives.

Speaking Wednesday, the cornerback was asked how he found out?

"Bill [Belichick] called me," Gilmore said. "Told me, ‘Congrats. Get ready for work this week.’”

Word for word, that is what he said?

“Just basically that, yeah,” Gilmore said.

When asked about Gilmore making the Pro Bowl earlier on Wednesday, the coach had a little more to say than with Gilmore the day prior.

“Yeah, Steph’s had a good year,” Belichick said. “I thought he had a good year for us last year. I mean, all players improve as they’ve been in the system longer. He was a good player when he got here. He’s had a good year for us.”

The former Bills cornerback has been the best player at the position for the Patriots this season with 18 pass breakups, the second-most in the entire NFL.

“It’s a great honor,” he said. “I wouldn’t say it’s not, but I’ve got a big game this week. Going to the playoffs, that’s something I like doing, so that’s what one thing we’ve got to handle our business this week to put a great future in our season.”

Gilmore will get a chance to face his former team this week as the Patriots look to clinch their 10th AFC East title.
