FOXBORO -- New Patriots outside linebacker James Harrison has released a statement on his Instagram page following being released by the Steelers last weekend and then signing with the Patriots as a free agent on Tuesday.

Harrison, who has spent 14 of his 15 NFL seasons with the Steelers, said he asked for his release multiple times this year after not playing as much as he was told when he re-signed this past offseason.

He also said the team told him he would eventually have a role, but that never happened as he only played in five of the 15 games. The 39-year-old also refuted some of his former teammates' claims such as him not helping out younger players, as well as not visiting injured linebacker Ryan Shazier in the hospital.

Below is the complete statement.
