NBC Sports' Chris Simms is ranking the 40 best quarterbacks in the NFL.

For years, the Patriots have had one of the best in the entire league in Tom Brady, but now that he's in Tampa Bay, that is not the case.

According to Simms, Jarrett Stidham is No. 35 in the NFL.

Simms and Mike Florio discussed Stidham on Thursday's PFT Live and broke down some of his throws from last preseason.

"To stick as the starter in New England, Stidham will have to be much higher than No. 35 next year," Florio wrote in a blog post noting the No. 35 ranking. "If he doesn’t, he’ll likely be off the list altogether come 2021. For now, though, there’s reason to believe the offense is in good hands, and reason to understand why the Patriots weren’t more aggressive when it came to trying to keep Brady around."

Stidham appeared in three regular-season games and went 2-for-4 passing with 14 yards and one interception.

Behind the scenes all reports were Stidham made steady progress on the practice field and improved a great deal when it came to grasping the playbook and system.

While the organization brought back Brian Hoyer this offseason, it seems likely Stidham will be the starter come Week 1 in September.
