FOXBORO -- Julian Edelman was a teammate of cornerbacks Logan Ryan and Malcolm Butler for many years, which came with many battles on the practice field.

Now with Ryan and Butler in Tennessee, Edelman will face the pair for the first time on Sunday, which he admitted will be a little strange.

“It brings a little fun into it," he said Wednesday. "I haven’t seen it in awhile. The last time was probably [Darrelle Revis] when he went back to New York. It’s going to be kind of funny. I haven’t seen them in a Titans uniform.”

Edelman added: “There were battles going against those guys. Guys that — Logan’s a real instinctive football player that is fundamentally sound. If you mess up with Logan, he’s going to run the route for you. That’s the kind of player he is. He’s a very cerebral-type guy that studies everyone, works hard. And the same can be said with Malc. These guys, they’re good football players, really good football players. They showed it here, and they’re showing it now. You can’t mess up with them.”

Butler has received a lot of heat over the last few days for being ranked the worst cornerback in the NFL by Pro Football Focus, but Edelman had a lot of praise for his former teammate.

“Malcolm’s Malcolm,” Edelman said. “He’s a strong player who plays the ball well in the air. He’s gotten beat a couple times, but that’s the nature of his game. He’s a real aggressive player that competes, plays the ball well through your hands. He’s long — upper body. He’s got that ability to make up speed with the ball in the air while looking back. A lot of corners can’t do that.

"I got a lot of respect for Malcolm. He’s a hard player that competes, and his road to where he’s got shows how hard he works. He’s a stud.”

The Titans, who are 4-4, need the game more than the Patriots, which should make for a competitive afternoon.
