FOXBORO -- Speaking for the first time publicly since he was suspended four games for using a banned substance, Julian Edelman addressed what happened.

“It’s disappointing with the penalty and the findings and I am definitely accountable for that," he said after practice Saturday. "Ultimately, my focus is going out and working my knee and get better each day. It was tough last year watching your team go out and play great football without you. It’s exciting to get back out here and get to play with them.”

Edelman added: “Obviously, you’re disappointed with it. I have to follow the protocols a little better and make sure this never happens again. I am accountable for my actions and ultimately my focus now is getting my knee right and going out and play football at a high level. Like I keep on saying, it was a helluva year to just sit and watch a team go to the Super Bowl and play without you and you’re on the couch. It was tough, but I am excited to be out here and work on my game.”

The wide out was asked what was the mistake that he made to test positive.

“You know what, that is in the past and I am just moving forward," he said. "I already addressed it and you guys know me, short memory. I am done with it.”

As for knowing exactly what happened, Edelman couldn't go there.

“It’s NFL policy not to talk about it," he said. "You know how that goes.”

Edelman appealed his four-game suspension arguing the process and how it was handled, but it was denied by a third-party. Edelman will now miss games against the Texans, Jaguars, Lions and Dolphins.
