Kyrie Irving is setting himself up to leave Boston.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Irving is not opting into his $21.3 million deal for next season and will become a free agent eligible to sign a new contract with the Celtics or another team. The team has expected this ahead of the option date Thursday.

This means there is no paperwork necessary for him to enter free agency.

Irving averaged 23.8 points per game last season.

This story will continue to develop over the coming weeks.
