DETROIT -- After making a trade for a star wide receiver in Josh Gordon earlier this week, could the Patriots potentially make a play at another star on the trading block?

Probably not.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Steelers will be listening to trade offers on running back Le'Veon Bell. The running back hasn't yet showed up this season due to disagreements with the Steelers organization. He wants a new contract and isn't happy being tagged for the second straight year.

While in theory the Patriots could use a lead back, there's virtually no shot of Bell coming to New England.

No. 1, the Steelers would never trade Bell to the Patriots as one of their top competitors in the AFC. And No. 2, Bell's contract. He has to play the 2018 season under his current contract, so whatever team hypothetically traded for him would need to take on his cap hit of just under $15 million ($12 million now) for this season. And also because of his contract, no extension can take place until after the season.

Not only would it be tough for the Patriots to have any shot at trading for Bell, it will be tough for any team.
