Following being released on Monday, former Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell thanked Patriots fans with an Instagram post Monday night.

"New England, thank you! My heart hurts, but I smile when thinking about all the love, support and patience you have given me," the caption read. "To the community this is not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you later. Go Pats!"

Mitchell has been dealing with knee injuries since college and missed all of last season due to a knee injury. Before his release, he didn't participate fully in a practice this summer.

The third-year wide out was released without an injury designation so if he clears waivers he will become a free agent.

New England, thank you! My heart hurts, but I smile when thinking about all the love, support and patience you have given me. To the community this is not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you later. Go Pats! --❤️
