The Red Sox were said to be talking to the Mets about starting pitcher Zack Wheeler last week, but they do not appear to be interested following trading for Andrew Cashner over the weekend.

According to SNY, the Red Sox are out on Wheeler and the belief is now they will focus their attention on bullpen help.

Boston sent two minor leaguers and cash to Baltimore in exchange for Cashner. The veteran right-hander is 9-3 with a 3.83 ERA in 17 starts this season. He's expected to make his Red Sox debut Tuesday night against the Blue Jays.

The SNY report adds the Yankees are still interested in Wheeler, but are also targeting other starting pitchers.

The MLB trade deadline is July 31.
