It takes a good amount to get praised by Bill Belichick, but Sunday's 37-31 overtime win over the Chiefs in the AFC championship was one of those rare instances for the Patriots.

Appearing on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria Monday afternoon, Belichick went out of his way to praise the team for its effort.

"I love this team, I love our players," he said. "I love the way they played. I loved the way they played and competed last night. It wasn’t perfect, but they gave everything they had, and that is all you can ask for as a coach. And I would say the coaching staff, me included, gave everything we had. We made mistakes and there were things we could have done better too, but we all put it all out there and thankfully we were able to win in overtime.”

After leading 14-0 at the half, the Chiefs game storming back in the second half to take the lead early in the fourth quarter. Then, the final four minutes saw three lead changes and then overtime before Rex Burkhead allowed the Patriots to walk-off with a win on a two-yard touchdown to cap off the first drive after they won the coin toss.

The defense did its job holding Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce to just four catches for 65 yards and also the Chiefs offense to just 290 yards, its lowest output of the season.

“What a remarkable game that was last night," said Belichick. "I was so proud of our players and staff. Back-and-forth game, but we just kept competing and in the end made a little bit more, made a couple more plays than the Chiefs did. They are a good football team. It’s a tough place to play, but you have to give our guys so much credit for the heart, determination and toughness that they showed.”

The Patriots will now advance to their third straight Super Bowl where they will take on the Rams in Atlanta.

"I think we can play better," he said. "We'll need to play better next week against the Rams."
