Over the years, the Patriots have made great use of their late-round picks and even undrafted players with them making significant impacts on the active roster.

This year it could be Ole Miss cornerback Ken Webster, who was selected in the seventh-round.

"He's a really, really good player in 2016. He had some injuries that he sustained in '17 – whatever year that was – then he kind of worked his way back," Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio said Saturday, "I'd say he's similar to [Keion] Crosen just from the standpoint of [he has] outstanding testing numbers. I mean, [he's] really explosive in terms of his speed and his explosiveness – I mean like eye-popping numbers."

The "eye-popping numbers" Caserio is referring to are from the NFL combine where Webster ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds, the three-cone drill in 6.85 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.14 seconds. Those times ranked sixth, eighth and ninth, respectively among cornerbacks.

Webster torn knee ligaments in the first game of the 2016 season, which ended his year. He was also suspended the first game of the 2017 season following being arrested for shoplifting.

For his entire college career, he made 23 starts and finished with 125 tackles, 24 pass deflections and three interceptions.

"I learn fast, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get on the field and help my team out regardless," he said on a conference call. "I’m also physical at the line, physical in the run. I can play corner, safety, nickelback, whatever is needed."

The cornerbacks room is a crowded one, but Webster will be given an opportunity to earn a roster spot.

"I’m really just thankful that I get an opportunity to come into a program, just getting ready to learn from the older veterans and get ready to compete for a spot in whatever way I can help the team," he said.
