FOXBORO -- After acquiring pick No. 87 in an earlier trade with the Bears, the Patriots selected Alabama running back Damien Harris.

Harris played four years at Alabama and saw his best season numbers-wise come as a sophomore and junior when he had over 1,000 yards rushing, while last year he had 876 yards. In his four seasons, he totaled 52 catches for 407 yards.

He will join a Patriots backfield that includes Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead, James White and Brandon Bolden.

Here are three quick thoughts on the newest Patriots running back.

-- Playing at Alabama, he's used to splitting time in the backfield. He's been in running back rooms with Josh Jacobs, Bo Scarbrough, Kenyan Drake, etc. He was asked about this at the combine and he gave a Patriot-like response, saying it doesn't matter to him and it's all about the team.

-- Harris and ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas are huge fans of one another, which includes the two tweeting at one another a good amount. The running back was a communication studies major and has said one day he wants to be a football analyst.

-- As is the case with a lot of Patriots picks in the past, Harris was a captain at Alabama.
