FOXBORO -- Bill Belichick loves Rams punter Johnny Hekker.

"I mean Hekker is a tremendous weapon," he said before the Patriots played the Rams in 2016. "This guy looks like as good a player as I’ve ever seen at that position."

Speaking Thursday, Belichick continued to gush over the 28-year-old.

"[Johnny] Hekker’s a tremendous player, a great athlete. He’s a weapon," he said. "They block kicks, they return kicks and they have a fast coverage team that can change field position."

Belichick added: "Again, he’s a weapon on the field. He can change field position and he’s a good situational punter and obviously he’s very athletic. You have to respect his ability to handle the ball. I think the main thing when you sent your punt return team out there is you want to make sure you get the ball at the end of the play. That’s not always that difficult but with these guys it’s pretty challenging."

Hekker averaged 46.3 yards per punt this season and had a long of 68.

The Patriots also need to be aware of a fake punt, as in the regular season Hekker was 2-for-4 passing with 19 yards. The Rams also executed a fake punt in the NFC championship game this past weekend.

Even though he's a punter, Hekker still has the ability to have a big impact on the game and the Patriots need to be aware.
