FOXBORO -- After Jason McCourty didn't play in the first preseason game, some wondered what that meant. Could he be in danger of not making the team?

After listening to Bill Belichick Monday morning, it doesn't seem like it was a big deal, as the coach had a ton of praise for the 10-year veteran.

"Very professional," he said of McCourty. "Yeah, he’s great – hard-working kid, smart, has experience. He’s picked things up well. It’s been good."

As for why he didn't play Thursday?

"The guys we played, we played," Belichick said. "The guys we didn’t play, we didn’t play. We’ll play other guys this week and we’ll see how it goes. I mean, you all know I’m not talking about anybody’s injuries, so there’s no point in even bringing that up. We’re not going through that. Can’t look at everybody every week – there’s just too many guys. So, some guys will play one week, some guys will play more the other week."

McCourty is part of a crowded cornerback group that includes Stephon Gilmore, Eric Rowe, Jonathan Jones, Cyrus Jones, Duke Dawson, J.C. Jackson, Keion Crossen and Ryan Lewis.
