FOXBORO -- Injuries are starting to mount for the Patriots.

Two projected key contributors -- Sony Michel and Marcus Cannon -- left Wednesday's practice early. Both walked down the back hill on their own.

It wasn't clear what happened to Cannon as he walked off the field with head trainer Jim Whalen before the team even did anything real competitive. Cannon left Thursday's practice early last week, but that appeared to be heat related. The heat wasn't a factor Wednesday.

Michel got banged up in half line drills early on in the session. After cutting through a hole, he went to ride the stationary bike and then went to the medical tent. After a few minutes there he left the field under his own power. It appeared to be a left leg injury.

In addition, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport is reporting wide receiver Jordan Matthews' hamstring injury is deemed to be significant. He once again missed practice and the team worked out Eric Decker earlier in the week.

These two positions are certainly worth monitoring.
