FOXBORO -- Isaiah Wynn's rookie season did not go as planned, as the offensive lineman suffered a torn Achilles in the preseason and thus missed the entire season.

With the departure of left tackle Trent Brown via free agency, Wynn seems like the player who will slide in to replace him.

While it's hard to know exactly what Wynn can do because of all the time missed, offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia seemed very encouraged when asked about him last Friday at Gillette Stadium.

“I’ll be honest with you, I went back over all of training camp and looked at everything, this guy is a really good football player," he said. "We just have to get him out there. I’ll leave it at that. He’s a really good football player.”

Scarnecchia added: “Still excited. He’s rehabbing for his Achilles still. He’s done a great job and we are going to let the process go forward and as soon as he’s able to get out there we’ll get him out there.”

For the second straight year, the team will be working in a new left tackle as last year Brown was replacing Nate Solder. Scarnecchia feels the team has the players in place to be able to have another seamless transition.

“I think it’s comparable to what we went through last year," he said. "I hope we’ll have some good candidates to play in there. I feel like we have guys like that on our roster right now and hopefully we can get it done.”

The Patriots also lost swing tackle LaAdrian Waddle during free agency, so the Patriots tackles currently are Marcus Cannon, Wynn, Jared Veldheer (not officially signed), Cole Croston, Dan Skipper, Yodny Cajuste, Cedrick Lang, Tyree St. Louis and Calvin Anderson.

There's not much experience there so the top candidates to earn roster spots are Cannon, Wynn, Veldheer and Cajuste (third-round pick).
