As expected, the Patriots will not open the 2019 season on Thursday night.

This is customary for Super Bowl champions, but the NFL officially announced Monday the Bears will host the Packers on Thursday, September 5 to commemorate the NFL's 100th season.

The Patriots will instead host their Week 1 game on Sunday night against a team TBD. It will be known when the full schedule is released later in the spring. Potential teams include the Steelers, Cowboys, Browns or Chiefs.

This has been rumored since immediately following Super Bowl LIII, so it did not come as much surprise.
