The Patriots officially have moved on from wide receivers Malcolm Mitchell and Jordan Matthews, but both were back in the news Tuesday.

-- Mitchell passed through waivers unclaimed, which means he's now a free agent. He's now free to sign with any other team. Him going unclaimed may be a sign his health just isn't there and teams across the league have legitimate concerns with him, as well.

-- After some confusion last week, the Patriots have officially released Matthews, as he was released from injured reserve with an injury settlement. This means when he's healthy he can sign with any other team. He suffered a hamstring injury in the first few days of camp.

The Patriots will play their first preseason game Thursday night against the Redskins.
