Rob Gronkowski's status aside, the Patriots need to look to improve their tight end position, and it appears they have already begun that process.

On Wednesday afternoon, NFL Network mentioned the Patriots have been "doing their homework" on Jared Cook. The 31-year-old is coming off his first Pro Bowl season with the Raiders where he recorded 68 catches for 896 yards and six touchdowns.

Cook is entering his 11th season in the league and has played for four teams -- the Titans, Rams, Packers and Raiders.

Other free agent tight end options include Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Tyler Eifert, but it's worth noting the draft is exceptionally strong at the position.
