It appears the Patriots themselves feel they need to upgrade the wide receiver position.

According to NFL Media's Mike Giardi, the Patriots inquired about just about every available wide receiver - and some not available - over the last month, including Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr.

Brown was traded to the Raiders, while Beckham was traded to the Browns. In addition, it was already known the team was interested in free agents Adam Humphries and Cole Beasley. It was learned on Brown's podcast Tuesday that the Patriots were interested in his services.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise given the current wide receiver depth chart: Julian Edelman, Phillip Dorsett, Braxton Berrios, Maurice Harris, Bruce Ellington, Matthew Slater and Damoun Patterson.

At this point, the top free agents are off the board so the team may need to get creative when it comes to bolstering its depth.
